Ambassador of Japan to New Zealand
Ambassador Osawa was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to New Zealand in February 2024. He perceives that the key to strengthening the economic relationship between our two nations lies in renewable energy and hydrogen. To this end, he is diligently undertaking on-site assessments, facilitating dialogue with relevant stakeholders, and assisting both governments in fostering collaboration.
He entered the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries after graduating from the University of Tokyo. And he has played a pivotal role in the Ministry especially in trade negotiations and agricultural policy reform. During this period, he pursued his further studies at the École Nationale d'Administration (ENA) in France and worked in Tokyo as well as in Paris and Geneva. Notably, he was deeply involved in negotiations with New Zealand during the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks.
